Planning a Trip? Weighing the Value of TSA Pre-Check

October 30, 2025 by Edgeworth-Admin

For many seniors, traveling through airports can be stressful, especially when it comes to long security lines and the need to remove shoes, belts, and jackets. TSA PreCheck offers a way to simplify this process by allowing eligible travelers to use shorter lines and keep on most clothing and accessories during screening. For older adults who travel regularly—whether for vacations, family visits, or business—this convenience can make flying less tiring and more enjoyable.

The program does come with a cost: currently about $78 for five years. For seniors who only fly once every year or two, the savings in time and effort may not be worth the expense. However, for those who take multiple trips each year, especially through busy airports, the benefits often outweigh the fee. The reduced stress of avoiding long waits and the added comfort of a smoother screening experience can make air travel far more manageable.

It’s also worth noting that adults age 75 and older already receive some security accommodations, such as not always needing to remove shoes and light jackets. Still, TSA PreCheck typically provides faster lines and greater consistency. Ultimately, whether it’s worth it depends on a senior’s travel habits, budget, and desire for convenience. For frequent flyers, TSA PreCheck can be a valuable tool to make traveling easier and less stressful.
